"Facing Shame: The leadership of major U.S. universities, Harvard, MIT, and the University of Pennsylvania, refused to condemn the rampant anti-Semitism on campuses amid the war in Gaza and the massacre on October 7, during a hearing held for them by the Education Committee of the House of Representatives. 'Does a call for the murder of Jews violate the conduct rules of Penn University, yes or no?' Republican Alice Stefanik asked the university president, Elizabeth Megill, during a hearing in the House of Representatives Education Committee.
'If the words turn into opposition, it can be harassment,' she evaded, but Stefanik continued to press: 'I'm asking, is a specific call for the murder of Jews indeed considered violence or harassment?' After an exchange, the president of the University of Pennsylvania responded, 'It can be harassment.' Stefanik replied, 'The answer is yes.' Stefanik wrote on her X account (formerly Twitter), 'University presidents refuse to condemn a call for the murder of the Jewish people. This is unacceptable and anti-Semitic – everyone must resign today.'
Despite the probing hearing, the decision 'to require campus leaders to confront anti-Semitism' was rejected. However, the committee chair, Representative Virginia Foxx, a Republican from North Carolina and Education and Labor Committee Chair, called on the three university presidents to do more to combat anti-Semitism on campuses.
Cases of anti-Semitism on American university campuses have grown since the beginning of the conflict in Gaza. In an exceptional incident at UCLA at the end of November, pro-Palestinian students roamed the campus with knives in their hands. The students used the sharp objects to tear signs for Israel and for the release of the kidnapped. At least two students were photographed with knives in their hands.
The Jewish student organization Hillel at Harvard responded to the Congress debate: 'We are appalled by the need to state the obvious: calls for murder against Jews are always an incitement to violence. The failure of President Guy to properly condemn this discourse raises questions about her ability to protect Jewish students on campus.'"
"Medical professionals and healthcare personnel from Gaza, who were arrested by Israeli security forces on suspicion of aiding the enemy in the war, attempted to escape to the southern part of the Strip with the civilian crowd on the Salah ad-Din axis but were located and apprehended by the IDF and Shin Bet. Their arrest has been extended, as reported today (Wednesday) on Channel 11.
Yesterday, Channel 11 reported that 21 healthcare professionals, including doctors, paramedics, and ambulance drivers, who work in the hospitals of Shifa, Rantisi, and Rantisi Hospital in the northern part of the Strip, as well as Najjar Hospital in Rafah, were arrested. About seven years ago, after it was exposed that the hospital, under its direct management, served as the headquarters for the Hamas terrorist organization, he was transferred for investigation by the Shin Bet. Following numerous testimonies, the Shin Bet and IDF said that the Hamas terrorist organization exploited many resources, including electricity, to strengthen the underground system it built beneath the hospital. Additionally, Hamas stored many weapons in the hospital and its surroundings.
Moreover, after the massacre carried out by the Hamas terrorist organization on October 7, the organization used the hospital as a hideout for its terrorists and even brought kidnapped Israelis there. A pathological report confirmed that the murder of Lt. Col. Noam Marziano occurred on the hospital grounds. Extensive terrorist activity of the Hamas terrorist organization took place under its management in the hospital. A decision regarding continued detention will be made based on the investigation findings and the involvement of the hospital management in terrorist activities, if proven."
The IDF released a new photo and video showing northern Gaza senior Hamas commanders relaxing in a tunnel, circling the ones it has eliminated in recent airstrikes.
The IDF said it had successfully targeted and eliminated several high-ranking commanders of Hamas’ Northern Gaza Brigade and Gaza City Brigade, including five in the released photograph, significantly disrupting the terrorist organization’s command and control infrastructure.
The operations were guided by intelligence from the Shin Bet.
In the Northern Gaza Brigade, IDF forces killed the brigade commander, Ahmed Jandor, and several other senior officials, including the deputy commander and commander of the aid battalion. This has severely impacted the brigade’s ability to function, the IDF says.
In Gaza City, IDF forces eliminated four battalion commanders and several other key officials, including the head of the anti-tank unit and heads of air and naval formations.
The operations also resulted in the seizure of important documents and technical equipment, which the IDF noted will provide valuable intelligence.
Due to the damage to the command and its infrastructure, the functioning of the Northern Brigade of the Gaza Strip was significantly damaged, the IDF says.
