Professional soccer K-League 1 team Daejeon Hana Citizen announced on the 21st that coach Lee Min-seong voluntarily resigned due to poor performance.

Daejeon announced, “Coach Lee felt great responsibility for the team’s recent poor performance and failure to live up to the expectations of fans, and announced his intention to resign from the club.”

He added, “After careful consideration, the club decided to accept Coach Lee Min-seong’s intention to resign.”

Coach Lee was appointed as the 14th coach in 2021 and led Daejeon for about four years.

He made a significant contribution to Daejeon's promotion to the first division for the first time in eight years by winning 4-0 against Gimcheon Sangmu in the second leg of the 2022 promotion playoffs.

However, they performed poorly this season, finishing at the bottom of the league with only 2 wins, 5 draws, and 6 losses (11 points).

In the end, Coach Lee took responsibility for his performance and decided to leave Daejeon. Director Lee said, “I am grateful and sorry to everyone who has trusted and supported me so far. “I have so many good memories and received so much love while working with the team called Daejeon,” he said as he bid farewell. He continued, “I would like to once again express my gratitude to the fans who have always supported us passionately, the players and staff who have done their best, the club front office, and everyone else who has dedicated themselves to Daejeon behind the scenes.” He added, “Daejeon has a high goal.” It is a team with a vision and a sufficient environment and capabilities. “I will always watch and support you from outside,” he said. Daejeon plans to make every effort to appoint a successor to stabilize and reorganize the team, and plans to run the team under an acting manager system with head coach Jeong Gwang-seok for the time being.
