The 729 Battle II is entirely distinct from the original 729 Battle. Its rubber surface is exceptionally sticky—even more so than the 729 Origin—while the bottom layer is slightly harder, with a hardness of approximately 47º and a "factory-tuned" design. Although it is a high-speed offensive rubber, its extreme stickiness slightly dampens its speed. The spin potential is excellent, and the rubber surface is both soft and highly elastic. Additionally, the inward-facing pips are notably short.
