David Israel Shapiro (June 17, 1928 – October 1, 2009) was renowned for his work as a First Amendment attorney and civil liberties activist. He notably defended individuals accused by the House Committee on Un-American Activities and represented the American Nazi Party in a free speech case. Shapiro was also a pioneer in class action lawsuits, advocating for civil liberties throughout his career.
