“Bring the Golden Lion back to school” Deoksu High School, the winning candidate led by Kim Tae-hyung and Jeong Hyun-woo, reports its first win in the competition

“I want to bring the golden lion back to our school.”
Deoksu High was the height of the mound in the second round (round of 32) against Dogae High on the 8th day of the 78th Golden Lion National High School Baseball Tournament and Weekend League King of the Kings (co-hosted by Dong-A Ilbo, Sports Donga, and Korea Baseball Softball Association) held at Mokdong Stadium on the 21st. They won 3-1.
The batting lineup was poor and they were unable to score many points on the mound. Early in the game, when Lim Yu-bin, a freshman at Dogae High School, attacked with a breaking ball in the 70-80 km/h range, the score remained scoreless until the third inning. In the bottom of the 4th inning, Woo Jung-an got on base with a walk and opened the scoring by stealing 2nd base. With one out and 3rd base, Eom Jun-sang's grounder to shortstop led to the first run scored by follow-up hitter Jeong Min-seo's sacrifice bunt. In the bottom of the 5th inning, when the score was tied 1-1, with one out and runners on first and second base, Oh Si-hu and Woo Jeong-an regained the lead with one RBI and timely hit in a row.
Although they won, Deoksu High School had an overall difficult time in the first game of the tournament. Accordingly, the one-two punches Taehyung Kim (4 innings without runs) and Jeong Hyunwoo (1 inning without runs) were not spared. Starting pitcher Yoo Hee-dong passed the baton after allowing one run in four innings, but the batting line did not explode, so they had no choice but to use one-two punches one after another.
After the game, Deoksu High School coach Yun-jin Jeong said, “(Lim Yu-bin’s) 70-80 km long ball would have been very unfamiliar to our players,” and added, “The opposing pitcher was good, so we had a hard time. “He tried to play the game without playing two players (Kim Tae-hyung and Jeong Hyun-woo), but it didn’t work out the way he wanted,” he said. He continued, “Don’t all teams target Deoksu High School? Coach Park Kang-woo and Dogae High School players seem to have prepared well. On the other hand, our condition seems to have not improved yet. However, our children are basically good players with all their abilities, so they will improve quickly,” he added.
Deoksu High School is a prestigious baseball school that has won the Golden Lion six times (1994-1995, 2004, 2013, 2016-2017). This year, he will challenge for his first championship in 7 years with strong pitching and hitting power. Coach Jeong said, “The Golden Lion is a truly historic and prestigious competition among existing national high school baseball competitions. This year, I want to take the Golden Lion back to school. “I will do my best, so I hope you will support not only Deoksu High School but also high school baseball,” he said.
